I've always been interested in the minute and often obscure goings on of the US Gov't. So, yesterday I was wondering as I was watching everyone who's anyone in American leadership at the inauguration, who was the person who was put in the "undisclosed location." This is done each state of the union address as well; one senior official will be put somewhere safe in case of catastrophe. Well, after some digging I found out the man in the bunker, officially called the "Designated Successor," was Defense Sec. Robert Gates.

Also, Joe Biden was technically the president from 12:00 to 12:05 yesterday. President Bush's term expired at noon, Biden had been sworn in, and Obama was not sworn in until around 5 minutes later.
